30004 ACORUS GRAMINEUS TANIMANOYUKI ARAC HP HT PRICE: $ 6.00 Lime-yellow stripes inside outer edge of each slim blade; from Japan, excellent as short grassy-tufted houseplant; or quite hardy in SE Ohio--a "Japanese Sweet Flag" which stays evergreen if given semi-aquatic conditions outdoors. Easy in aquatic culture--although the name translates as "Snow on the Mountain," this is a more uncommon than showy cultivar..

30108 ALOCASIA PLUMBEA NIGRA [ATROPURPUREA] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Black Taro" Elegant polished, blackish purple leaves form handsome specimens; produces clusters of large ivory hood shaped spathes protecting the 8"+ spadix. Very popular addition to the bog garden; trendy color for the urn fancier--especially those designing "Black Gardens." Not to be confused with the smaller, non-glossy "Jet Black Wonder" Colocasia.

32500 ALTERNANTHERA AMOENA BRILLIANTISSIMA AMA TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 While the true "Red Parrot Plant" may no longer be in actual cultivation, this cultivar from Dale Huddleson sports coppery green flame leaves with red tones; pink centers with purplish veins and wine colored splashes. Very slow growing until the heat of the summer.

66878 ALTERNANTHERA AMOENA PARTY TIME AMAR HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Strongly mounding bright basil green looker with each leaf wildly slashed with pink and magenta highlights--a natural as a basic container companion, soon forming a wide open shrublet of marvelous colors easily blending diverse plants types and colors in any combination; midwinter strawfls at petioles adds to the appeal for those growing this charmer in winter windowsills or hobby greenhouses. Unfortunately, much beloved by slugs--so site accordingly.

40025 ALTERNANTHERA DENTATA RUBIGINOSA [RUBY] AMARA HP PRICE: $ 4.00 "Christmas Clover" has deep maroon leaves accented by masses of long-lasting ivory popcorn flowerheads lasting all winter-- thus also called "False Globe Amaranth." Old favorite for its prolific winter display; but newly popular for its ease of culture in adding a quick splash of unabashed purple to summer container gardening.

41845 ALTERNANTHERA FICOIDEA ROSEA NANA AMARA HP PRICE: $ 4.50 Marvelous "Pygmy Parrotleaf" with very delicate-appearing spatulate rose-colored leaves forming a lilac cloud of foliage on the twiggy bushy plantlets; very distinctive lilac tone rendered quite delicate in tone by the filigreed character of the thin leaves closely intersticed--nonetheless an easily grown, quite vigorous Victorian clone unbeaten when you need a showy but easily blending ornamental to beautifully cascade from your urn, basket, or windowbox and make absolutely no fuss about it. Our customers proclaim this to be one of the ultimates in "spill" plants for mixed containers.

54522 ALTERNANTHERA POLYGONOIDES PURPLE SELECTION AMARA CGH TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Water Amaranth" Slim purple leaves on branching plant popular in aquatic gardens. Also known as A. sessilis, "Scarlet Hygrophila" Also offered as a. reineckii--as this suggests, a very popular water garden and bedding plant of uncertain origin; most dramatic as a hanging basket item, or (as is quite low statured) a cascading purple carpet in windowboxes or urns especially when the petite white cloverheads of blossoms start to appear.

51710 ALTERNANTHERA PURPLE KNIGHT [HORT] ARAM TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Low spreading (or cascading) carpet of glossy crisped wide leaves of metallic purplish tones. Quite attractive combined with container or windowbox groupings. Popular for rich color and rapid growth rate.

56815 ANUBIAS COFFEEFOLIA ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 6.25 Beautiful prostarte growing African "Water Aspidistra" with beautiful deep green coffee mimic leaves shingled along the creeping stem; a bog native with odd lime toned spathes. Perfect in any larger terrarium or in a wet situation.

66889 CANNA AUSTRALIA [FEURZAUBER] CAN TGH PRICE: $ 18.00 Semi-aquatic "Feurzauber" forms a tight tall 5'+ clump of very stunning burgundy black leaves topped by petite scarlet (fading to salmon) flowers. Does well as bog or container subject (especially as does not go dormant), maintaining dramatic burnished chestnut foliar color even in high shade. Outstanding in the summer bed to enhance the golden foliar colors of such as Canna 'Bengal Tiger.' Originated at the Podgora Gardens, New Zealand.

55505 CANNA STUTTGART [STRIATA] CAN TGH PRICE: $18.00 Sturdy erect foliage mostly bright white with shades of gray green & dark green topped with small salmon flowers toned orange & pink, with yellowish margins. Brilliant show when grown as a semi-aquatic for usually will not burn in our climate if treated as a bog plant; considered a sport of 'Omega' and more recently, a sport of 'Heliconifolia' with its small apricot blossoms. Whatever. All find this startling beauty to be of great interest as a conservatory or hobby greenhouse subject for its uniquely dramatic foliage year round if indoors. And it was for this excellent indoor performance that the late Bob Hayes (of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden) recommended this beauty when he shared it with us some years ago.

55656 COLEUS SHIRENSIS LAB CGH HP PRICE: $ 6.00 Impressive African "Swamp Coleus" with woody stems ranked with slate green pelted hispid elongated leaves and topped with showy panicles of azure-mauve blossoms; shared by Quail Botanic Gardens. Requires moist conditions to gain its girth.

31450 COLOCASIA AFFINIS JENNINGSII LAB TGH PRICE: $ 7.00 The shimmery "Black Caladium" with central purple mask between the pale veins of ash silver. Prefers aquatic spot, but successful as regular pot plant, soon forming a colony. Many of you have bought this over the years from us and realize that it has a very long winter dormancy: best left in its container and kept barely moist during this period.

30182 COLOCASIA ESCULENTA [ANTIQUORUM] FONTANESII ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 "Elephant taro" Vigorous purple-stemmed elephant-eared leaves of glaucous blue-green. Needs wet feet and warmth. 30785 COLOCASIA ESCULENTA CHICAGO HARLEQUIN ARAC GH PRICE: $ 12.00 A form of the regular water Taro with lime green to cream splashes and maculations in the leaf pattern--a tip of the hat to John Jocius for finding and sharing this subtlely variegated, elegant bog gem with the rest of us.

Very happy as a semi-aquatic--will maintain foliage readily in the warm winter greenhouse as long as it is given consistently wet warm feet.

31463 COLOCASIA ESCULENTA MILKY WAY [VARIEGATA] ARA TGH PRICE: $ 25.00 Breathtaking "Variegated Elephant Ear" with big arrowhead leaves lavishly splashed with creamy gray and mottled with white--a snowstorm of confettii. To flourish needs boggish conditions with full light and warm temps.

56812 COLOCASIA ESCULENTA SUNNY SPLASH ARA TGH PRICE: $ 50.00 Elephant ears of milky green with golden lime splashes and freckling. Yinger's inspired name. Seems remarkably like the old cultivar 'Manini Owali'.

31254COLOCASIA ESCULENTA VIOLET/PURPLE STEM ARAC TGH CGH PRICE: $8.00. Dusky purple blushed dramatic arrow shaped leaves held over the showy smoky purple petioles; excellent in water gardens as well as regular containers. Prefers to go dormant mid-winter, even in greenhouse situations.

31453COLOCASIA NANCYANA NANCY'S REVENGE ARAC TGH CGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Amazing "Starburst Elephant Ear" with new rounded tipped very dark leaves displaying a creany starry center radiating out as the thickly textured leaves mature--beware: this species can nearly reach the massive dimension of Alocasia odora (although the spathes resemble C. esculenta)! To see this is to need it--very popular with hobby greenhouse growers as will produce small more highly colored leaves all winter in full sun than it seems to unfurl in the summer bog's heat--absolutely will not tolerate chill. And the name? Jerry Kranz discovered this in the Caribbean and named it for Nancy McDaniels.

40175 CYPERUS ALBOSTRIATUS [DIFFUSUS] CYP HP TGH PRICE: $7.75 "Dwarf Umbrella Plant" Broad matt-green umbrellas with very short stems; do not submerge--loves to be set in a saucer of water, but does not perform well if the soil surface is submerged. Habit is broader and much shorter; cultural conditions are different from the other "Umbrellas."

40176 CYPERUS ALBOSTRIATUS VARIEGATUS CYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Beautiful creamy striations on tufted blades; outstanding. Performs best sitting in (not submerged under) water--altho also successfully grown as a non-aquatic in moist soil. Can be most tempermental.

41388 CYPERUS ALTERNIFOLIUS (INVOLUCRATUS) CYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 "Zimbabwe Umbrella Plant" Semi-aquatic Papyrus relative from the Zimbabwe vlei: (this is the clone we received from the Zimbabwe B. Garden) which forms short top whorls of bright green leaflets on short stalks. Perhaps a new species; or likely the more current or more correct name for Cyperus alternifolius (which species is supposedly only native to Madagascar)! Be warned: if brought into your house for wintering, your cats will quickly devour it with potential resulting upchucks revealing remarkable colorings.

40178 CYPERUS ALTERNIFOLIUS GRACILIS CYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.25 "Miniature Umbrella Plant" Much smaller, more slender stems and reduced topknot of rayed bright leaflets giving it the obvious name, "Sparkler Grass." Best choice for the small aquatic tub, the miniature hobby greenhouse pool, or windowsill subject (if you grow as a houseplant, be sure to keep in an undrained container and to keep your cats at bay in order to avoid upchucked sections of this appearing throughout your house.)

40179 CYPERUS ALTERNIFOLIUS VARIEGATUS CYP HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.50 "Variegated Umbrella" Broad white bands on stalks & blades. Quite spectacular. This is the recommended umbrella plant for house culture. Can be used aquatically or as a standard house plant. The terminal spikes of highly scented flowers may be fragrant to some, but reminescent of airplane glue to others. Not a stunning showpiece, but a survivor with attractive leathery foliage.

55521 ECHINODORUS CORDIFOLIUS MARBLE QUEEN ALI CGH PRICE: $ 6.50 "Variegated Burhead" Aquatic tropical with richly golden marbled plantain-like foliage--likes wet feet, but best not to completely submerge. Takes a bit of a winter's rest if kept chill. NOT a houseplant. Ever.

66973 EICHHORNIA SPECIES MINIATURE PON TGH PRICE: $ 6.75 A marvelous "Dwarf Water Hyacinth" from Crystal Palace Perennials; does well indoors during the winter (with very bright light or grolites) until you can release it late spring into your outdoor pool or aquatic tub where it forms a dome of swollen blatter foliage and cute erect flower spikes. Will survive some winters in our zone if the ground barely freezes, but best grown as a cool greenhouse subject. Quite popular as a citizen of Wardian Cases.

50033 HEMIGRAPHIS RED EQUATOR [SP] ACAN HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Baby Waffle" Slightly puckered, purple grape-sized leaves on miniature creeping stems creating extensive lovely low mats and thus quite popular as a Terrarium subject and as a basic for mossed topiary. Very effective cascading from a windowbox or patio urn; a traditional low growing houseplant; more recently also used in aquatic tubs and ornamental bogs.

51072 HYMENOCALLIS CARIBEAE VARIEGATA AMARY TGH HP $ 12.00 "Caribbean Amaryllis" Evergreen foot-long waxy strap leaves with fantasticly beautiful wide rich ivory margins; Very showy cultivar demanding much warmth and constant moisture--actually prefers to be completely aquatic to produce the elaborate scented blossoms. If allowed to chill or slightly dry during the winter this bulb will drop its foliage, but the ivory edged strap leaves emerge again vigorously in the spring.

10564 MARSILEA SCHELPIANA MARS CGH HH PRICE: $ 6.75 Pinnae are lobed and look crested. Rhizomes creep and cover large area. For ponds during summer, although this "Notched Water Clover" is popular for indoor pools or aquariums--a must for collectors of unusual tropical evergreen aquatic ferns.

30631 PISTIA STRATIOTES ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 2.50 "Water Lettuce" Glorious open rosettes of spongy pearly- lime leaves with tiny caladium-like flowers nestled at their base. Great in a pool; or follow G. Elbert's suggestion and grow in moist wet sphagnum for a perfect plant under lights--just anchor a rosette in some sphagnum moss stuffed in a pot for ballast; then set the pot in a deep saucer of water. In time as the "Water Lettuce" repeatedly offsets, a nearly perfect sphere of deeply pleated spongy rosettes develops: visually marvelous.

57504 RUELLIA BRITTONIANA CHI CHI ACA HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.75 Stiff slim leaves rank the dark erect stems topped with showy bright pink blossoms; does well as bog plant, thus the "Pink Kathy Water Ruellia"--or grow in your outdoor summer beds as a pink flowered "Texas Petunia" and it will perform and perform and perform.

52991 RUELLIA BRITTONIANA KATHY FERGUSON ACAN CGH HH PRICE: $ 4.25 A vigorous heavily-bloomed very dwar selection of the woody Mexican shrublet with tidy linear leaves & long showy lavender tubular fls maturing to a brilliant deep purple; Lynn Lowery's new selection is sometimes offered as 'Katie's Dwarf.' Does as well as an aquatic as it does as a regular container or bedding subject--various customers have noted that they have an antique or special undrained pot on their summertime deck which they do NOT want to risk drilling a drainage hole into; so: if you plant bog loving 'Kathy' in this undrained pot, she will thrive especially if a bit of water collects on top.

30864 RUELLIA BRITTONIANA STRAWBERRIES & CREAM ACAN CGH HP PRICE: $ 6.25 Purple blue flowers over the richly white speckled leaves, turning blush pink in full sun. Scott Reaves discovered this dwarf variegated sport which does well in semiaquatic conditions. 40916 SCIRPUS CERNUUS [ISOLEPIS GRACILIS] CYP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Electric Grass" or "Fountain Bullrush" Perfect miniature tufts of translucent pendant green thread leaves tipped with bright straw-white bracts not unlike a mop of fiber optics! Must have constant moisture to thrive. Equally successful as an aquatic tub subject or a tuffet in a terrarium, or a mane in moss topiary; somewhat hardy in the very deep south.

30407 SPATHIPHYLLUM DUCHESS [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 One of many new hybrids that bloom early and young.

38164 SPATHIPHYLLUM VISCOUNT [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Very narrow glossy leaves under one foot; small white spathes abundantly produced above like "White Sails" scented rather like mint candy (NOT so in my experience--but then I usually miss most fragrances).

51270 TULBAGHIA SIMMLERI AMARYL CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 South African "Mauve Onion" with evergreen succulent strap foliage; sweetly scented mauve colored flower heads. Good pot herb with fashionably edible flowers; seems to flower more readily if crowded in a 10"clay pot. We notice that this is now featured as an aquatic subject of late. Also successful as a groundcover bog plant. This variegated sport was discovered and shared by Gary Outenreath. For reasons known only to them, Parks received this from us and now offers this as "Outerreath Gold"!

30437 XANTHOSOMA ATROVIRENS VARIEGATUM MONSTROSUM ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 28.00 "Mouse Cup" "Pocket Plant" Incredibly grotesque bluegreen arrowhead leaves, splashed with white and heavily ridged, are fused at the tip into pockets sporting long surreal tails. 30863 XANTHOSOMA AUREA LIME ZINGER ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 15.00 Amazing golden arrow leaved aroid forming clumps quickly if given bright light and semi-aquatic conditions. Absolutely the same as Alocasia 'Golden Delicious' but listed here on our website under both names since various reference books and articles are undecided! A considerable number of our customers have told us that this is by far their favorite "Elephant Ear" plant, growing rapidy in a moist bed or adequate container and simply glowing among other plants.

30444 XANTHOSOMA JACQUINII LINEATUM ARAC TGH CGH PRICE: $ 12.50 Crested leaves with whitish striations raised above the arrowhead leaves' surface; unexpectedly easy to grow as is vigorous as any of its similar cousin Colocasias. Very odd 'Monstrose Elephant Ear.' So very complex, so very over the top. So imperative to add to your collection.

56805 XANTHOSOMA SAGGITIFOLIA ARAC PRICE: $ 18.00 The truely enormous "Giant Elephant Ear" aroid with very decoratively prominate "ears". Evergreen if kept warm; but quite successfully kept dormant in winter along with your Caladium bulbs. Perfect choice as a gift to that particular gardening friend who always wants to boast that "mine is bigger than anyone else's." And yes. You are allowed to give gifts to yourself.

30440 XANTHOSOMA VIOLACEUM ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 12.00 "Blue Taro" Purple stems arch into swooping arrowhead leaves of dusky violet darkening to a rich purple toward the margins; this semi-aquatic "Blue Ape" must have warm winter conditions to maintain evergreen foliage; easiest to grow as a semi-aquatic in summer (but very successful as a container companion plant or even planted in a bed with some perfect color companion like 'Lime Zinger'): then store like a dormant "Elephant Ear" during the winter. And like all Colocasias and Xanthosomas, most successfully stored by leaving them in their containers so that their ever so slightly moist undisturbed potting mix is around them all winter to prevent drying out and rot. Nonetheless, reliably evergreen [everpurple] in your winter greenhouse or warm plantroom.

31252ZANTEDESCHIA AETHIOPICA IVORYARAC CGH PRICE: $ 4.50 Fleshy rich green foliage perfect for the large ivory white "Calla Lily" blossoms; best performance in the cool winter greenhouse with ample sun; nonetheless, our customers often grow it in a moist to boggish location in full sun outdoors during the summer and it blooms! Some plants will simply not read the text books (alone read my meandering pronouncements) . . .

30781 ZANTEDESCHIA ROSE GEM ARAC CGG PRICE: $ 7.50 "Purple Calla" Unusual lavender rose spathes; considered a good container subject if kept evenly moist; seems to thrive both as a summer bog subject and as a winter greenhouse bloomer--you set up the cycle you prefer.
