40182 DALECHAMPIA ROEZLIANA EUP HP TGH $ 9.50"Bow Tie Vine" Remarkable Mexican spurge with short stems supporting wide crinkled leaves and paper-like rose pink bracts like bowties cupping the central succulent yellow spurge flowers--like floating bright lavender butterflies. Lovely.

55614 DATURA INOXA VARIEGATA [MISSOURI MARBLE] SOL TGH $ 25.00 The remarkable "Variegated Evening Trumpet" While famous as Scopolamine's source, this fabulous creature merits a prime conservatory spot for pink tinted white margined lvs; violet horizontal stems; big fragrant white upright trumpet flowers. This tends to be available only seasonally, so please inquire before ordering.

42265 DATURA METEL CORNUCOPAEA SOL CGH SSA $ 4.00 Large purple speckled cream trumpets held semi-erect thereby revealing the three-tiered fragrant layers: "Double Purple Horn of Plenty" famous as source of Scopolamine. Sometimes listed as D. arborea 'Double Black.' We have this only on a most irregular basis--check with us to see if seedlings are available. Always creates a sensation here when it starts blooming late summer.

66895 DATURA METEL DOUBLE GOLDEN QUEEN [HYB] SOL $ 4.25 SEASONAL AVAILABILITY IN LATE SPRING Erect stalks hold an umbrella of foliage topped with rather extraordinary upfacing three-tiered lemon gold "Horn of Plenty" trumpets; source of scopolamine. Also D. chlorantha; probably correct as D. atraemonium plena. Available irregularly--always check before ordering as this is a "seed crop" not always currently in stock

10317 DAVALLIA PYXIDATA POLYP TGH $ 42.00 "Australian Davallia." Reddish rhizomes grow upward into the air, branching from their bases (very bizarre); flattened spray of many tiny leathery pinnae--a very dark and waxy plane of intricate foliage unique to this footed fern. A collector's favorite for the unique habit--eventualy a major specimen requiring considerable space. Prefers orchid mix. Sometimes the demand for this is significant: but we now maintain two large stock plants and should be able to send good divisions throughout the season.

88982 DENDRENTHEMUM [CHRYSANTHEMUM] AOI COMP HH CGH $ 4.25 Upright "Ise Mum" type with woody stem(s) best staked; topped with remarkable orchid pink (fading to lavender) spidery eyelash blossoms with a startling yellow eye nestled at center; fern foliage. "Lavender Spider" for late fall flowers--if you are a northern grower, this will be a remarkable subject for a cool fall greenhouse or bright sunny plantroom. Removing side flower buds from the terminal stem will channel all energy to the terminal bud, resulting in an over the top size blossom.

61701 DENDRANTHEMUM [CHRYSANTHEMUM] FIRECHIEF [HYB]COMP HH CGH $ 4.50 Shamelessly dramatic "Cascade Mum" for brilliant late Fall displays with much terminal branching to present the cluster of scarlet red flowers, each with a showy bronzy yellow center. Very vigorous--loved by topiary and bonsai fanciers. While winter hardy outdoors here, the very late blooming date deems this a potplant in most midwest and northern climes.

88693 DENDRANTHEMA [CHRYSANTHEMUM] HATSU HIKARI COMP HT HH $ 5.50 This "Golden Cascade Mum" has the woody stem and petite very fingered foliage so admired by Japanese bonsai masters; even if not trained; late fall masses of chrome yellow blossoms--each a ruff surrounding a central tufted honeycomb. We have grown many Japanese cultivars over the years and this has proven the best performer with the least fuss and still reaching five feet or more for us with rather lackadaisical training discipline! Various of our bonsai fanciers regularly pinch this to encourage the development of a woody trunk of considerable character--especially successful with this mum cultivar as the leaves are already quite petite and the blossoms reduced. We have several with old woody stems five plus years old and holding well.

40189 DIANELLA CAERULEA VARIEGATA LIL HP CGH $18.00 "Blue Flax Lily" Elegant fans of thin leathery lance leaves brilliantly striped gold; clear blue fls followed by berries of birdsegg blue; this New South Wales "Paroo Lily" performs well as a houseplant; though cats will consume it. Most successfully grown like "New Zealand Flax" with bright cool (not freezing) winters; as well as most dramatically displayed as a specimen pot plant with them. We have enough stock currently to keep up with demand.

41480 DIANELLA SPECIES WHITE STRIPE LIL HP TGH $18.00 Unidentified stoloniferous species with erect arched lvs striped and margined with brilliant white. Slim wands hold nodding lilac blossoms. Striking specimen for full light. Does not closely clump like D. caerulea (perhaps D. tasmanica?). Does well as an indoor house plant.

82002 DIANTHUS CARYOPHYLLUS KING OF THE BLACKS CAR HH CGH HT $ 4.25 "Trailing Clove Carnation" fragrant purple blackish red blossoms over compactly statured gray foliage cascading in time from your baskets of windowboxes. Strong performer in the sunny winter greenhouse.

43140 DICHONDRA ARGENTEA SILVER FALLS CONV CGH HH $ 4.00 Excellent trailing cascading vine with slim stems covered with small hoof (Ginkgo?) shaped shimmery silver leaves; also useful outdoors, as is perfect as a quick (but tropical) prostrate groundcover in rockeries, or between stepping stones. A fabulous silver accent for any red or purple foliaged plant; an excellent foil for blooming cascading plants in summer hanging baskets; also very successful in window boxes and urns. And when you find a blossom you will realize that you are growing a relative of the Morningglories!

51921 DICHORISANDRA PENDULA COMM TGH $ 5.75 Tall bamboo mimic stalks from which arch pagodesque stems cloaked with glossy deep green, slightly patterned waxy leaves and beautiful delicate clusters of blue shading to violet spiderwort blossoms held on arching outthrust stems, thus the "Blue Pendant Ginger" although only the flowers are pendant, and the plant is of Spiderwort blood. Has become a big hit with the hobby greenhouse croud always looking for a new "wow" plant with which to amaze their friends.

50517 DICHORISANDRA THRYSIFLORA VARIEGATA COMM HP $ 4.25 "Blue Ginger" Heads of dark electric-blue flowers top tall, jointed stems with glossy heavy lvs faintly banded silver & toned purplish-blue beneath. Brazilian native of easy culture. This and its name arrived here from Longwood Gardens many years ago.

69020 DICHROA FEBRIFUGA SAX HH CGH $ 17.00 Curious Himalayan "Tropical Hydrangea" with attractively serrated evergreen leaves paired on downy shoots; clusters of blue flowers, tanish white beneath. A Longwood Gardens distribution.

11620 DICKSONIA ANTARTICA DIC CGH $15.00 The majestic "Tasmanian Treefern" needs cool (subtropic) very humid conditions to form its canopy of impressive outreaching deep green heavily textured fronds, with their network of straw toned veins, crowning the fibrous, wooly trunk. Avoid excessive heat during the winter.

50014 DICLIPTERA [JACOBINIA] SUBERECTA ACAN CGH HP $ 3.75 Cupped oval gray leaves, richly velvety haired surfaces giving a silvery tone, on low arching stems; showy brick-red two lipped rust orange designed blossoms in "King's Crown" heads appear during winter. From Uruguay, where this is known as the "Hummingbird Plant," this undemanding carpeting or cascading "shrimp" cousin (while traditionally a greenhouse basket or groundcover subject) has recently become popular as an undemanding attractive summer urn and windowbox item adding a soft velvety tone to any combination.

43070 DIEFFENBACHIA ANNE [HYB] ARAC HP TGH $ 22.00 Central cream veins accent the creamy ocher leaf with its occasional forest green blotches; darker shading at margins dramatically accented by a showy ivory rim. One could call this more variegated than patterned.

30202 DIEFFENBACHIA MACULATA BARRAQUINIANA ARAC HP $ 10.00 Pointed leaf has bold white midrib and almost randomly scattered creamy dots; the leaf stalks are ivory white and thus quite popular in Asia. Perhaps identical to 'Sao Antonia' in the Philippine trade. For the collector of seldom available species.

30210 DIEFFENBACHIA MACULATA RUDOLF ROEHRS ARAC HP TGH $ 12.00 "Golden Dumbcane". This old favorite has beautiful chartreuse leaves accented by green midribs and borders--be sure to avoid any chill. Antique one we actually originally purchased at the famous Roehrs greenhouses in Rutherford New Jersey back in historical times!

41846 DIETES VEGETA [MORAEA IRIDOIDES] IRI CGH HP $ 4.00 Beautiful & strong growing "African Iris"; Two foot fans with white fls marked yellow, style crests blue patterned. Strong short rhizomes (thus Dietes, as Moraeas are cormus in the current state of taxonomy for this confused batch of Irids--the plants are not confused, only the taxonomists)--the rhizomes hold the decorative strong evergreen leaf fans. Give full sun and stand back.

88589 DIONAEA MUSCIPULA AKAI RYU DROS HH TERR $ 6.25 Striking red foliaged "Venus' Flytrap" Atlanta B. Garden's Ron Gagliardo's "Red Dragon" selection. Since this is a Carolina native, this species wants to be dormant mid-winter. If grown indoors, keep in a terrarium.

55594 DIONAEA MUSCIPULA DENTE DROS HH TERR $ 6.50 Moisture loving "Venus' Flytrap" does best in a terrarium if not situated in a Carolina bog. This selected meristemmed form flaunts unusually large, wide traps with most of the marginal hairs fused. Distinctive.

40192 DIOSCOREA DISCOLOR [VITTATA] DIO HP TGH $ 12.50 LIMITED AVAILABILITY A delicate vine with lobed leaves marbled in nile-green with silver-gray highlights and red veins; violet beneath. Dormant in winter; re-sprouting from weird potato like tuber late spring. Needs high humidity environment or will fall victim to red spider as the leaf is thin. Always a challenge to grow, best stored in soil during long winter dormancy. Please do not call us to say your plant has died; instead, let it rest during the winter in barely moist soil. It will re-emerge late spring.

40192 DIOSCOREA MACROSTACHYA (MEXICANA ) DIO HP TGH $ 28.50 LIMITED AVAILABILITY This is the famous Mexican Turtle Back Plant. It will be available for shipping in the early spring of 2009. You might want to order at this time for spirng delivery. It is now called "Dioscorea mexicana" rather than "Dioscorea macrostachya." Either name seems to be used with equal regularity. Annual vines spring out of the turtle back caudex. If kept warm, the vines tend to remain, just not grow actively during the winter. Good for a south window.

40193 DIOSCOREA DISCOLOR MULTICOLOR DIO HP TGH $ 12.50 A horticultural form with wider leaves than the species with richer deeper colors and dramatic bands on the quilted lobed foliage--each violet backed leaf marbled in platinum and nilegreen with red veins. Winter domant just like the species, re-sprouting from a "weird potato like" tuber late spring: do not remove from the soil during the dormant period. While challenging, always an amazing plant for total eye candy. The dormancy cycles can be complex--thus, we emphatically do not recommend this for beginners.

60044 DISCHIDIA ALBIDA [HORT] ASC HP TGH $ 3.50 "Propeller Vine" Propeller-shaped pairs of attractive gray- green lvs on soft swollen pendant (or climbing if it can find something to twine around) stems make this a great basket subject. Bizarre little clusters of urn shaped blimp blossoms sometimes appear at leaf nodes.

60047 DISCHIDIA FORMOSANA MAXIUM [FORMOSA #1] ASC $ 5.00 Little rounded fleshy lvs; pouchy cream blooms.

60970 DISCHIDIA NUMMULARIFOLIA MARGINATA ASC HP TGH $ 9.25 Succulent fat green button lvs, each margined in rich ivory, are closely paired on the surface stems which shallowly root on any epiphytic mix or cork bark or treefern plaque. We have seen these growing in hanging baskets also with great effect. One of our favorite plants. These "Owl Eyes" flourish in light garden conditions. Sometimes sent as mossed URC. Never try to grow in a deep pot as this is quite epiphytic.

59179 DISCHIDIA SPECIES # 77111 [WAKEFIELD] ASC TGH HP $ 5.75 Attractive vine with opposite succulent leaves; odd blimp blossoms like tiny urns in clusters.

60706 DISCHIDIA SPECIES C-T #15 AES TGH HP $ 22.00 Fat succulent leaves mimic slim green beans, thickly spaced on the sometimes fascinating stems. Attractively bizarre; extremely slow, sometimes only producing two new leaf pairs a season. Please: name this soon!

54338 DODONAEA VISCOSA PURPUREA SAP HH CGH $ 4.75 Attractive "Purple Hop Bush" forms a dense upright shrub w/ resinous woody branches covered w/ upfacing leathery willow like bronzy purple leaves turning dusky copper in lower light intensities; clusters of white fls, then reddish winged seed capsules used as hops by Arizona settlers. Maybe. Actually native to the South Pacific. A beautifully foliaged subtropical in northern climes; an engaging shrub in the lower end of the subtropics; easily grown in a container. To see this is to want it, even if you do not currently brew bizarre beers.

54561 DOMBEYA WALLICHII BYT CGH HP $ 8.50 Stout stalks with impressive foliage present the remarkably showy balls of crowded rich pink flowers emitting a rich honey fragrance. Needs light and room. Always good to observe that an old favorite is so totally back in style--especially with our many Florida and Texas collector customers.

40198 DORITIS PUCHERRIMA ORC HP $ 22.00 "Amethyst Orchid" (formerly Phalaenopsis p.) From purplish wide leathery strap leaves arch slender stems bearing completely charming amethyst blossoms much more 3-D than "Moth Orchid" hybrids. .This plant will cluster well and grows nicely as a standard house plant. Flowers are smaller and more complex than those of the standard Phalaenopsis. Best grown in a barky orchid mix.

41748 DORSTENIA CARNULOSA MOR HP TERR $ 5.00 Marvelous caudiform species with bowling pin trunk studded with small thick lvs and cute "open-handed" hypanthodiums. Prefers warmth, thus ideal for growing under lights.

40202 DORSTENIA CONTRAJERVA MOR HP TGH $ 10.00 "Tortus Herb" Haired 8" silvery-patterned leaves deeply elaborately lobed arch out from succulent segmented stems; rayed receptacles (hypanthodiums) resemble crazed sea coral. Odd one with much slower growth rate and less fertile than the following easily grown form.

40203 DORSTENIA CONTRAJERVA AMPLIFOLIA MOR HP TGH $ 5.00 "Wart Flower" Wider, shallower hypanthodium lobing than the species form (see previous entry) with the typical leaf also less lobed; the thick tuberculed succulent stem is unsegmented. Easy culture. Probably the species known as "Drake's Foot" used as a cure for snakebite in Central & South America, thus also known as "Tortus Herb." Dramatic in a large terrarium, yet quite easily grown on any windowsill--if it (for mysterious reasons) remains unwatered for some extended period of time and drops its leaves, just begin watering again and a new set will soon appear as the pseudo-caudex trunk retains life for a good stretch of time (and remember to keep the dried leaves for your snakebite medical kit). Can you afford not to have this houseplant?

40204 DORSTENIA CRISPA [SELECTION] MOR HP TGH $ 8.25 "Gout Plant" Succulent caudiform trunk; crimped lvs; pale hypanthodium

40207 DORSTENIA RADIATA MOR HP TGH $ 4.50 Similar to upright purple blushed succulent stalked mannii, but lvs darker & hypanthodium producing a great number of shorter rays; perfect in any child's collection as the necessary "Hand Plant" demanding only high light to succeed.

40209 DORSTENIA TURNERAEFOLIA MOR HP TGH $ 6.00 Shiny deep green elm-shaped lvs and ray-less round purple receptacles on glossy maroon tubercular stems; low light prefered to keep rich dark sheened foliage color. Perhaps same as Dorstenia bahiensis (Sucre), even though the sap is a remarkable orange! Excellent house plant.

41732 DRACAENA DEREMENSIS SHOGUN GOLD AGA HP TGH $ 22.00 The "Golden Pineapple Top" is a sport of 'Janet Craig Compacta' with new leaves emerging golden ochre. Very rare.

40231 DRACAENA SURCULOSA PUNCTULATA AGA HP TGH $ 7.50 Rarely seen form with variegations of honey-ochre; dappled blond areas overlap in elegant patterns; easy to bloom indoors for an overpowering airplane glue "fragrance"! A survivor of indirect light and low humidity.

40223 DRACAENA REFLEXA GRACILIS AGA HP TGH $ 3.25 Formerly Pleomele reflexa. Short attractive waxy leathery dark strap leaves in world to cover slender upright strong stems. This attractive deep green houseplant will grow where all else fails.

40224 DRACAENA REFLEXA SONG OF INDIA AGA HP TGH $ 8.00 Ribbed trunks support thick swirls of short dark strap leaves margined in wide ivory bands; Pleomele reflexa variegata. Few house plants this highly variegated flourish in normal dry indoor conditions as well as this one.

40225DRACAENA REFLEXA SONG OF JAMAICA AGA HP TGH $ 5.00 Swirled strap leaves with central yellow stripes; readily tolerates low light conditions. Waxy foliage withstands lack of humidity indoors where other plants fail.

40232 DRACAENA THALIOIDES AGAV HP TGH $ 5.75 Stiff fans of crepe mimic leaves; this Pleomele thalioides famous for surviving very low light conditions. The terminal spikes of highly scented flowers may be fragrant to some, but reminescent of airplane glue to others. Not a stunning showpiece, but a survivor with attractive leathery foliage.

20082 DRYMONIA SERRULATA [SPECTABILIS] GES TGH $ 3.00 Clambering stems bear pairs of attractive bronzy lvs with violet-red blushed underleaf; large bell-slipper flowers of soft pearly lemon tones. Unique species used as a snakebite antidote among South American Indian tribes. Usually sent as generous URCuttings in moist sphagnum.

10401 DRYNARIA QUERCIFOLIA POLYP HP TGH $ 25.00 Fertile fronds are impressively broad and very deeply cut; the large papery oak leaf-shaped sterile fronds emerge during the winter cycle. Forms a magnificent conversation piece in time, expecially if mounted on a treefern plaque or grown in a wire mesh hanging basket.

41880 DURANTA ERECTA [SPECIOSA] AUREO-MEDIA VER HP TGH $ 5.25 Unusual "Lemon Drop" clone of "Skyflower" with each leaf center splashed golden ochre. Freely produced white blossoms. Excellent twiggy small foliaged subject for small statured tropical bonsai as can be easily trained in lateral directions, yet beautiful also as a windowsill plant or in a patio container.

57500 DURANTA ERECTA GOLD MOUND VER HP CGH $ 5.25 Low arching stems lined with lovely small solid golden lvs (pale lime in low light) forming the perfect golden gilded bonsai. Lovely as a windowsill plant expecially when producing its delicate wands of white flowers; a popular new outdoor shub in the warmer edge of the subtropics.

57476 DURANTA PLUMIERII GOLDEN EDGE VER HP CGH $ 8.00 Superbly flashy. Limber stems present showy buttery gold lvs, with central gray green flame, & terminate with purple elongated flower clusters, then gold berries. Excellent new Japanese selection of this Caribbean species.

41585 DURANTA PLUMIERII [REPENS] VARIEGATA VER HP TGH $ 12.00 "Ivory Margined Skyflower" Vining shrubs with woody out arching stems ranked with beautiful glossy toothed leaves with very wide creamy-white margins. The blue (fading to lilac) flower clusters are followed by yellow "Pigeon Berry" fruit. Caribe native. Foliage larger and flashier than the repens/erecta complex--although the nomenclature exists in a perpetual fog currently.

41254 DURANTA REPENS [ERECTA?] VARIEGATA VER CGH HP $ 6.50 "Variegated Skyflower" Serrated glossy small leaves splashed white. China blue flowers followed by bright "Pigeon Berry" fruit; more difficult to grow than its kin; variegation (which is a speckling, not a solid margin) may disappear in warmer climates. Nonetheless, the small leaves and twiggy nature of this clone combine to maintain it the favorite of bonsai enthusiasts.

42142 DURANTA SPECIES DWARF VER TGH HP $ 5.00 Hansoti #26; possibly an extreme dwarf clone of D. repens (although Botanists now suggest that all are species erecta--bit of a contrast?), yet the sprays of delicate flowers are of rich lilac, not blue. Outstanding dependable pot plant from india currently gaining much popular favor with prunner armed bonsai fanciers. Most successful as a windowsill houseplant.

52098 DYCKIA BREVIFOLIA YELLOW GLOW BRO HP CGH $ 18.00 Hummel's selection of a yellow variegated succulent mounding Bromeliad resembling a hemisphere of interlocked Agaves. Beautiful & rare, yet of easy culture demanding only very bright light and perfectly drained media.

52099 DYCKIA CARLSBAD BRO HP CGH $ 18.00 Thick-leaved hybrid smaller than D. platyphylla parent; first forms an elegant very succulent rosette, then offsets to form an interlaced (spiny leaved monster) mound. Our price reflects our unwillingness to tackle the daunting creature! But remains an excellent speciment in any succulent collection, a great undemanding performer on any bright windowsill.

61022 DYCKIA DAWSONII NARROW CLONE BRO TGH HP $ 22.00 Very ornate impressively armed rosettes of slim skeletal leathery leaves closely packed forming a hemisphere in time (separating offsets can lead to permanent scars); pink flowers scattered on elegant wands. Highly recommended for any serious sado-masochistic plant collection.

55521 ECHINODORUS CORDIFOLIUS MARBLE QUEEN ALI CGH $ 6.50 "Variegated Burhead" Aquatic tropical with richly golden marbled plantain-like foliage--likes wet feet, but best not to completely submerge. Takes a bit of a winter's rest if kept chill. NOT a houseplant. Ever.

66973 EICHHORNIA SPECIES MINIATURE PON TGH $ 6.75 A marvelous "Dwarf Water Hyacinth" from Crystal Palace Perennials; does well indoors during the winter (with very bright light or grolites) until you can release it late spring into your outdoor pool or aquatic tub where it forms a dome of swollen blatter foliage and cute erect flower spikes. Far easier and definitely more visually attractive than the usual species form clogging the Everglades.

41029 ELATOSTEMA SESSILE WEEPING LADY URT HP TGH $ 4.25 "Weeping Pilea" Slightly quilted toothed leaves of deep shiny green clusters on arched "weeping" fleshy succulent stems; this selection darker and more compact than species type. Adds height in a Wardian Case design.

40234 ELAEAGNUS PUNGENS MACULATA ELEADOR ELA HH CGH $ 10.00 Frosted slate green leaves with bold yellow centers; variegated cultivar of the "Arbutus Shrub" hardy in the south, but best as "Golden Silverthorn" foliage plant for a cool location inside in the north were it still forms "Gumi-flower Red Berry."

53021 ELETTARIA [AMOMUM] CARDAMOMUM DWARF ZIN HP TGH $ 4.25 "Dwarf Cardamom Ginger" Small version of this spice--attractive, easily grown houseplant with wonderfully fragrant foliage quickly clumping in a windowsill pot. A tonic and expectorant, also ingested to aid digestion; belived by some to detoxify caffeine. We most emphatically do not stand by any of these claims!

40650 ENSETE MAURELII MUS TGH CGH $ 28.00 "Abyssinian Black Banana" While having the thick heavy substance of M. ventricosa, the blackish red lvs flaunt mahogany midribs and margins; purple-carmine underleaf is revealed as leaf unfurls; red-bracted infl. This is the astounding giant we keep at the patio-pond area here every summer. Come fall the foliage is removed and the tub is carted off into the unheated (but never freezing) porch for the winter where it always unfurls several dramatic bronze lvs for tropical drama while the snow falls outside. If you watch PBS's series on Africa, note stands of this banana around the Eritrean villages where the natives use every part of this plant in their economy. In our experience, this never offsets--the most ordered ornamental form currently as its photo seems to (quite deservedly) crop up in magazines everywhere. Certainly the most easily grown of all the tribe as a container plant--but be sure not to pot in a deep container as the roots grow more outward than directly down.

66739 EPIDENDRUM RADICANS GLASSHOUSE GOLD ORC TGH $ 20.00 The stout foliage of the "Golden Reed Orchid" is an evenly toned golden ochre, perfect with the claret fringed orchid flowers dancing on elongated spikes. Must have full sun and good humidity to bloom. Seems to do better in pumice nuggets than in bark in northern greenhouses. Not a houseplant.

40241 EPIDENDRUM RADICANS [IBAGUENSE] RED ORC HP TGH $ 12.00 LIMITED AVAILABILITY "Reed Orchid" Ranks of fleshy lvs with terminal clusters of bright damask-red orchid blossoms with long fringed snoots; Bright light imperative for good flowering.

41690 EPIDENDRUM RADICANS SEIDEL ORC TGH HP $ 12.00 "Orange Reed Orchid" Clone from Seidel Orchids with ver regular rounded infl of bright orange blossoms. Easy.

40244 EPIDENDRUM RADICANS VARIEGATUM / STRIATUM ORC TGH HP $ 32.00 Bright yellow and cream stripes on the leathery leaves of this clone imported from Japan; with good light produces clusters of carmine blossoms. As with gold foliage clone, will be sent as a cutting in dry moss.

30233 EPIPREMNUM FALCIFOLIUM AUREUM ARAC HP TG $ 6.00 "Golden Pothos" Beautiful scandent vine with closely ranked golden lance lvs; this quite rare cultivar of the vigorous indonesian species creates a spectacular hanging basket curtain of bright lemon gold, but equally beautiful in dishgardens and as a ground cover for taller, more leggy houseplants. Rarely offered, easily grown, always stunning. Recently Martha Stewart suggested adding this to summertime hanging baskets and mixed foliage urns: we tried it and: as usual, she is absolutely on track as all performed beautifully.

40251EUCOMIS AUTUMNALIS [UNDULATA] LIL CGH $ 15.00 "Pineapple Lily" Glossy strap-leaf rosettes frame odd spikes of green flowers, all topped by a "coma" of tufted leafy bracts; has proven relatively hardy outdoors here in Z6b with sufficient mulch and perfect drainage--but leaving these in winter soil in Z6 or colder is certiainly not advised. Hyacinthaceae

83241 EUCOMIS COMOSA PINK BLOSSOMS LIL CGH $ 12.00 This selection of "Pineapple Lily" has stout stalks of distinctly pink toned flowers on the thick stems topped with the "Carmen Miranda" leafy bracted topknot. This winter dormant genus now more correctly in Hyacinthaceae. We selected this color clone from plants grown from seed received from the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in the early 80s.

65640 EUCOMIS COMOSA SPARKLING BURGUNDY [OAKHURST] LIL HH CGH $ 10.00 The lovely "Purple Pineapple Lily" with somewhat succulent burgundy foliage forming a wide succulent rosette from which arise the distinctive greenish white flowers closely packed on a long succulent spike lasting months (typically topped with a bizarre topknot of leaflets, thus resembling a pineapple); remember that this needs a slight winter dormancy even if grown in a greenhouse pot. Hardy outdoors here (usually) if planted deeply and mulched thickly; more reliably hardy in the deep south.

65676 EUCOMIS POLE-EVANSII LIL CGH $ 25.00 "Giant Green Pineapple Lily" From a whorl of wide crisped undulate strap leaves reaching 2' at maturity emerges an (eventually) 3 to 5' stalk densely covered with greenish white flowers, topped with a crown "coma" of oblong crisped bracts. Major. You will need considerable space as this matures over the years. We usually need to remove the large succulent-floppy leaves before packing.

51246 EUCROSIA BICOLOR AMARYL TGH $ 7.25 Xerophytic Ecuadorian with attractive Phaedranassa-like lvs; dusky bronze-red fls in elaborate shapes are clustered on erect slim stems. The dormancy cycle seems rather unpredictable! Nonetheless, quite attractive when it tires of dormancy.

67423 EUPHORBIA COTINIFOLIA ATROPURPUREA EUP TGH $ 10.00 "Hierba Mala" or "Tropical Purple Smoketree" Elegant branching stems of purple with whorls of thin ovate lvs of wine red fading to metallic magenta with red veins; whitish inflorescence more odd than decorative. Excellent large accent plant, newly popular in large summer urn designs; Remember that (as with various spurge saps) this is a traditional Caribbean fish stunning poison--do not locate near your school of koi.

67035 EUPHORBIA FLAMELEAF (SPECIES) EUP TGH HP $ 2.50 "Flameleaf Spurge" Multitudes of slender stems flutter with rounded diamond-shaped lvs of dusky violet fading to emerald green edges. While of delicate appearance, actually a very easy-to-grow houseplant, marvelous under lights. Amazon native. Absolutely excellent when added to outdoor summer urns, windowboxes and even to Hosta beds as the dusky purple small featured foliage makes any companion plant more special--especially successful when paired with Euphorbia 'Diamond Dust'.

67759 EUPHORBIA FULGENS [JAQUINIFLORA] EUP HP TGH $ 6.25 Mexican "Scarlet Plume" with slender stems arching under the slim attractive foliage and scarlet orange pseudo-petaled blossoms which last for months--the winter red bracts cluster in the leaf axils for a charming look. Remember this old Victorian favorite must have full sun to mature and no stray lite in the fall (like its kissin cousin, the Poinsettia) or it will fail to set buds for the charming winter display. Once again the old is new as many of you have told us that they have been searching for the "Scarlet Plume" for years.

66796 EUPHORBIA HETEROPHYLLA YOKOI'S WHITE EUP TGH $ 10.00 Petite, tidy poinsettia shaped leaves are richly margined with cream; annual rose blushed soft red bracts form late summer, persisting intensely into fall. From Dr. Masato Yokoi's find in Okinawa in 1989--you will need to re-root this regularly to avoid and prevent its natural urge to be an annual! Excellent as outdoor summer 'annual' or a perennial for winter greenhouse blooms. Now that you are armed with these cultural tricks, can you really resist such a beauty?

40252 EVOVULUS BOSCANA [NUTTALLIANUS?] CON HP CGH $5.00 "Blue Haze" Lovely morning glory fls on low bush of softly- haired lvs; good in annual beds, but best in a window or for lightgardening as height of bloom is during winter. Now commonly seen as a garden plant in the Keys.

40257 EXCOECARIA COCHINCHINENSIS EUP HP TGH $ 10.00 "Chinese Croton" Pairs of beautiful shiny leaves deep green on top, a brilliant laquered red beneath elegantly presented on arching woody maroon stems. Outstanding houseplant, but like many spurges, sap is toxic, and thus called "Blindness Tree" in Southeast Asia where it is commercially valuable to stun fish for easy catches (do not try this in your goldfish pond). Easy. Has long enjoyed the distinction of being the cover plant of George Elbert's large tome on foliage plants, unfortunately now out of print.

66882 EXCOECARIA COCHINCHINENSIS TRICOLOR FANTASY EUP HP TGH $25.00 The merely extraordinary "Tricolor Chinese Croton" with the paired dark leaves not only flashing a brilliant laquer red underleaf, but random pink splashes on the surface as well. Amazing clone of this Asian shrublet. Another imperative addition to any self-respecting collection of rare variegated plants.
